About the position

The Flock Supervisor will oversee the health and management of cage-free hens at a farm facility, ensuring quality husbandry practices and veterinary interventions as necessary. This role requires close collaboration with the farm owner to optimize bird health and egg production, while maintaining accurate records and supervising staff involved in flock management.

Responsibilities

  • Inform and advise manager of status and performance of flocks on a daily basis, maintaining accurate records of flock mortality, performance, and overall health.
  • Determine the most efficient and effective means of maintaining optimal bird health and producing high-quality eggs.
  • Diagnose and treat diseases of hens in accordance with guidelines, providing follow-up on veterinarian interventions to ensure appropriate treatment and effectiveness.
  • Review and maintain documentation for standard operating procedures related to bird health and mortality, in conjunction with routine audit requirements.
  • Complete barn maintenance as needed that directly impacts bird health and well-being, as directed by the farm owner.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to other employees overseeing flocks, clearly communicating daily goals and duties as directed by the farm owner.
  • Identify training and development needs of employees overseeing flocks and assist in providing education and orientation as needed, maintaining training records.
  • Maintain biosecurity practices to ensure bird safety.

Requirements

  • Background and training in Poultry Science or Animal Science preferred.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience working with egg-layer flocks preferred.
  • A team player with a desire to build, motivate, and manage effective teams.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (bilingual).
  • Exceptional organization and prioritization skills as it pertains to supervising assigned flocks.
  • Thorough knowledge of the processes, diseases, and medications required for egg-layer flocks.
  • Self-driven with excellent time management skills.
  • Hands-on work ethic that desires to learn and assist with various roles for which he/she will be providing education and assessing processes.
  • Strong customer service aptitude with creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Exhibits personal integrity, maintaining confidentiality in regard to organizational operations.
