About the position

The Flood Paralegal is primarily responsible for managing pre- and post-closing flood due diligence to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to loans secured by real estate in designated flood hazard areas. This role involves ordering flood hazard determinations, analyzing results, and collaborating with various teams to ensure all necessary documentation is obtained prior to loan closing.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Flood regulations and processes for all levels of bank personnel.
  • Order flood determinations for new loan requests and manage existing loan portfolios to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze flood determinations, flood maps, and supporting documentation to determine flood insurance requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of requirements to order flood determinations and analyze results effectively.
  • Review flood insurance policies for compliance and assess insurance carriers based on A.M. Best ratings.
  • Participate as SME on project teams to evaluate impacts of new processes and systems on Flood Portfolio activities.
  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers, Lending Specialists, Collateral Paralegals, and Loan Closers to complete due diligence and flood documentation.
  • Mitigate risk by obtaining required documentation for compliant files from various team members.
  • Communicate clear instructions to meet regulatory requirements and resolve complex documentation issues.
  • Perform post-closing reviews of flood-related documentation and ensure system information is updated.

Requirements

  • Two (2) or more years of paralegal experience, preferably in bank or commercial real estate lending.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree and paralegal certification preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of legal, commercial lending, and lease terminology, title insurance, real estate law, and the Uniform Commercial Code.
  • Basic knowledge of the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973.
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
