About the position

The Floral Designer at Homeland Stores is responsible for maximizing sales and profit in the Floral Department through exceptional customer service and maintaining optimal department conditions. This role involves designing floral arrangements, managing customer orders, and ensuring the quality and presentation of floral products.

Responsibilities

  • Greet all customers and respond to their questions/requests courteously.
  • Design floral arrangements to wire-service standards.
  • Select, wrap/package products for customers.
  • Document special orders/requests from customers.
  • Take and call-in orders by telephone.
  • Prepare and organize the cooler/preparation area for incoming merchandise.
  • Inspect deliveries for shortages, damage, and quality.
  • Clean department areas including floors, mirrors, and production equipment.
  • Load and transport cases to various areas within the store.
  • Understand and operate floral-ordering systems like FTD and Teleflora.
  • Count and record inventory items accurately.
  • Change department pricing and manually price-mark merchandise.
  • Evaluate product quality and manage unsalable products accordingly.
  • Change signs and price markers as needed.
  • Check cooler temperatures regularly and record findings.
  • Replenish supplies in the sales floor and preparation area.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the store manager.

Requirements

  • Basic mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and counting skills.
  • Ability to follow complex verbal instructions regarding store policies and equipment use.
  • Ability to design floral arrangements to wire-service standards.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing English, including understanding instructions and labels.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience or training as a floral designer.
  • Experience using floral tools such as scissors, clippers, and helium tanks.
