About the position

The Floral Designer at Hy-Vee is responsible for creating floral arrangements based on customer requests and fulfilling merchandising needs. This role emphasizes customer service, teamwork, and maintaining the quality of floral products. The designer will also take floral orders, operate as a lead with floral clerks, and ensure a pleasant shopping experience for customers.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
• Greets customers in a friendly manner and makes an effort to learn their names.
• Assists customers by escorting them to products, loading or unloading heavy items, and addressing customer suggestions or requests.
• Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly service to callers.
• Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Cleans, processes, and cuts flowers appropriately.
• Responsible for the department in the absence of the Manager or Assistant Manager.
• Understands and processes FTD, interstore, Teleflora orders, and Internet Orders.
• Inventories product, evaluates status, cares for damaged product, and replaces where necessary.
• Fills customer orders completely and creates floral arrangements in a timely manner.
• Ensures floral products are fresh in the shop and throughout the store.
• Cleans the floral area and takes special requests for products.
• Counsels customers regarding plants and floral care.
• Identifies key areas to place specials within the store.
• Operates as a lead with floral clerks, training them on designs and telephone orders.
• Orders flowers and supplies daily or as needed with direction from the Floral Manager.
• Handles customer issues and product problems.
• Understands the basics of floral products, care, and handling, and can explain product requirements to customers.
• Unloads trucks, places products in appropriate storage areas, and replenishes merchandise.
• Wraps flowers carefully to avoid damage.
• Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.

Requirements

• High School diploma or three years of similar or related work experience.
• Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of variables and limited standardization.
• Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another; and guide people.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in floral design or related fields.
• Knowledge of floral care and handling techniques.
