About the position

The Florida Highway Patrol Trooper position is a law enforcement role responsible for enforcing state laws, ensuring public safety on highways, and assisting motorists. Troopers undergo rigorous training at the FHP Training Academy and are assigned to patrol operations across Florida, where they perform various duties including traffic regulation, criminal law enforcement, and accident investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce the State's criminal and traffic laws.
  • Regulate the flow of traffic and assist motorists.
  • Perform vehicle inspections and detect impaired drivers.
  • Apprehend fugitives from justice and investigate traffic crashes.
  • Assist other agencies upon request.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Must be a United States Citizen or Naturalized Citizen.
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Pass a thorough visual evaluation and meet vision requirements.
  • Complete a Level 2 background check and CJIS security clearance.

Nice-to-haves
