We are looking for a Fluidics Engineering Intern - Consumable/Flowcell who is curious, loves to learn, and wants to make an impact on cutting-edge projects. Our program has multiple elements (no pun intended) to ensure that you have a well-rounded internship experience helping the Fluidics team by taking ownership of a portion of a large-scale project, utilize your expertise to address real-world issues, and gain valuable industrial experience while contributing to the development of an exceptional sequencing product. This internship will also provide opportunities to develop soft-skills as well as meet with Leaders across the organization to learn about their careers and gain insights on how to navigate your early career decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a cross-functional team to design and develop the next-gen consumable/flowcell for pushing the boundary of sequencing platform, optimizing the performance of the platform, and exploring new possibilities for sequencers
  • Participate in designing experiments, collecting data to validate hypotheses and pinpointing to prospective solutions, with the close mentorship from a staff fluidics engineer
  • Apply fundamental knowledge of fluidics, including experimental and simulation expertise, and utilize troubleshooting skills to explore sciences and address issues that have a direct impact to the real-world
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers to acquire industrial insights and skillsets in a cutting-edge biotech company

Requirements

  • Junior or Senior year student currently enrolled in Bachelor/Master/PhD degree program in the Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical, Biology, Physics or related department
  • Wet lab experience for 1-3 years
  • Basic understanding of fluid mechanics, mechanics, optics, chemistry, and microscopy is preferred
  • Device characterization experience, including fluidic consumable development, material characterization, fabrication of microfluidic chips, on-chip chemical/biological reactions, manufacturing of micro sensor and actuator, prototyping of instrument/device/chip for lab-on-a-chip, organ-on-a-chip, immunodiagnostics, cell sorting, on-chip cytometry, gene-sequencing, high content screening, or any biofluidics/optofluidics-related applications, is preferred
  • Data analysis experience using basic programming software, e.g., python, Matlab, or C++, is required
  • Experience with publishing papers or presenting at conferences is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies

Benefits

  • Compensation range of $25 - 40/hr based on degree and experience level
