About the position

The position is part of Blue Origin's Lunar Transportation business unit, focusing on the development of the Blue Moon lander product lines. The role involves ensuring the quality and compliance of spacecraft fluids and propulsion subsystems, managing non-conformance issues, and supporting the manufacturing process to facilitate the transport of crew and cargo to the lunar surface. The candidate will engage in hands-on support on the manufacturing floor and collaborate with design teams to enhance producibility and compliance with engineering requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Document non-conformance tags for spacecraft fluids and propulsion subsystems.
  • Analyze variations to part print specifications affecting part form, fit, and function.
  • Evaluate and provide a course of action regarding the ultimate disposition of the parts.
  • Develop and manage execution of work order procedures pertaining to nonconformance dispositions.
  • Closely manage the fabrication, quality, post processing, and schedule of hardware throughout the entire fabrication process.
  • Evaluate areas of non-conformance regarding defects arising during the manufacturing process compared to product definition requirements.
  • Support the manufacturing floor in assembly and installation, compliance to engineering requirements, discrepancy resolution, and component acceptance testing.
  • Disposition and investigate root cause of vehicle discrepancies and implement preventative/corrective action.
  • Drive producibility excellence into integrated product team (IPT) designs, including design for safety, manufacturing, assembly, maintainability, testing, cost, logistics, inspection, and standards.
  • Engage with suppliers and customers to resolve emergent nonconformance issues.
  • Perform design engineering analysis of discrepant machined parts manufactured in an aerospace facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards and codes related to fluid system design and qualification.
  • Experience with CAD and fluid analysis software (CFD, FEA, etc.).
  • Previous experience with engineering change management, non-conformances, and material review board in a highly regulated industry such as aviation, aerospace, or nuclear.
  • Consistent track record of manufacturing experience directly related to part machining.
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing including working knowledge of GD&T.
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
