About the position

The Fluids Systems Design Engineer III at Blue Origin plays a crucial role in the development and operations of the New Glenn rocket, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed for human spaceflight. This position involves the design, analysis, development, and qualification of fluid systems, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of space exploration. The engineer will work within a collaborative team environment, focusing on detailed mechanical design and ensuring the reliability of aerospace fluid systems.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, analysis, development, and qualification of the fluid system for the New Glenn rocket.
  • Engage in detailed mechanical design, requirements, layouts, analysis, component selection, modeling, drafting, manufacturing, and test definition.
  • Apply technical expertise and leadership skills to ensure safe human spaceflight.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers to solve complex problems related to fluid systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in the design of aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
  • Experience in aerospace Fluids Systems Design.
  • Experience in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred).
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools to analyze pressurized systems and secondary structures (ANSYS preferred).
  • Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Solid understanding of fluid components such as valves, tubing, and pressurized hardware.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience designing systems with Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Methane in liquid and/or gaseous states.
  • Experience in system layout or component design for launch vehicle or ground cryogenic and pressure systems.
  • Experience with thermo-fluid solver applications Thermal Desktop (Sinda Fluint), AFT (Fathom/Arrow), Excel based models, REFPROP.
  • Proven understanding of materials properties and treatments; preference for aerospace materials.
  • Hands-on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components/systems.
  • Experience in all phases of integrating routed fluid systems in ground base or flight vehicle applications.
  • Experience in engineering analysis/support for disposition of Non-Conformance (NC) related to fluid components, machined parts, weldments, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
