About the position

The Fluids Valve Design Engineer Senior role at Blue Origin is focused on the design, analysis, and integration of fluids and propulsion subsystems for Lunar landers. This position is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which aims to develop sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo to the lunar surface. The engineer will lead the design of cryogenic valves, ensuring their performance and reliability for space missions, while collaborating with a diverse team of specialists to achieve the company's vision of enabling millions of people to live and work in space.

Responsibilities

  • Complete life cycle of the valves from definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, assembly, verification, and operation
  • Design the next generation of cryogenic valves for use on our Lunar program and perform 1st order analyses to verify your designs
  • Complete trade studies to quantify valve design options
  • Technical leadership of small teams working part design, CAD, testing and analysis of valves
  • Work with suppliers or Blue Origin groups to identify and procure components
  • Work with support organizations to procure, fabricate, and install flight hardware
  • Provide day to day tasking, support and mentorship to entry level engineers
  • Perform technical peer reviews of products

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in valve and or mechanical+fluids component design
  • Knowledge of propulsion and fluid system components (i.e. valves, regulators and pumps for cryogenics, propellants, and other fluids)
  • Experience designing parts in CREO
  • Background in GD&T to create manufacturable, high performing component drawings
  • Experience using design analysis tools such as ANSYS and Thermal Desktop to evaluate the performance of your designs
  • Ability to define and support testing of your design, conduct data analysis and iterate your design
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of collaboration and inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
