About the position

FM Approvals is seeking an Approvals Engineer to support the certification of electrical equipment for use in hazardous locations. This role is an exceptional opportunity for an engineer to collaborate with large manufacturers globally and gain exposure to recognized industry standards. The position is based in our state-of-the-art facility in West Glocester, RI, and involves both office and laboratory environments. The testing of hazardous location electrical equipment is one of FM Approvals' largest product categories, ensuring that such equipment is designed to prevent fires or explosions in areas where flammable or combustible materials are present. You will prepare project proposals that define the scope of testing and analysis, including cost estimates and timeframes for completion. Additionally, you will interpret standards requirements for lab testing, create lab test plans, and provide instructions to lab personnel for necessary testing. Your role will also involve preparing technical reports, effectively interpreting and communicating test results to clients and the management team, managing project schedules to ensure deadlines are met, and handling a portfolio of customer projects concurrently. You will interface directly with customers and communicate with all levels of management both internally and externally.
