About the position

The Felony Mental Health Court (FMHC) Clinician plays a crucial role in assessing and addressing the psychosocial needs of participants in the FMHC. This position involves determining eligibility for the court, providing clinical recommendations, maintaining contact with treatment providers, and delivering individual and group treatment for dual-diagnosed participants. The clinician collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to support participants' successful completion of community supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts the initial clinical assessment to determine eligibility for FMHC participation.
  • Identifies clients' risk for recidivism and assesses clinical diagnostic and biopsychosocial needs.
  • Reviews available medical records and gathers additional clinical information from collateral contacts.
  • Presents participant risk/needs areas and psychosocial history to the FMHC Team during staffing.
  • Engages in ongoing assessment of emerging participant needs and provides recommendations for Re-Entry Plan modifications.
  • Obtains weekly clinical updates from clinics/providers and reviews treatment progress in Harris County Jail medical records.
  • Delivers direct clinical interventions to FMHC participants and their support systems.
  • Triages and manages psychiatric crises, providing individual and group-based treatment.
  • Collaborates with the FMHC Judge and interdisciplinary team to support client supervision completion.
  • Supervises undergraduate social work interns when applicable.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience as a licensed clinician.
  • Active Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas.
  • Valid state driver's license and insurable under the department's automobile insurance program.
