About the position

The Flight Operations (Ops) Crew Resource Planning Consultant at Southwest Airlines plays a crucial role in supporting the company's mission of connecting people through reliable and affordable air travel. This position involves conducting data-driven research to recommend strategies for Flight Operations initiatives and forecasting plans for pilot staffing. The consultant collaborates closely with Network Planning and Financial Planning & Analysis teams to develop hiring and training plans that align with future commercial targets. This role is essential for ensuring that the staffing needs of the Flight Operations department are met effectively, supporting the overall strategic plans of the company. As a key member of the Crew Resource Planning Team, the consultant represents the team's interests across various departments, participating in meetings and committees as assigned. The responsibilities include leading and supporting analyses, evaluating strategies, and making recommendations to enhance performance measures and reporting. The consultant will also conduct research and analysis of trends, developing new processes, tools, and reports to improve efficiency in Flight Operations Crew Planning, Scheduling, and Training. The consultant is responsible for the accuracy and evaluation of the Pilot Staffing headcount model and the Training Resource Planning model, innovating additional capabilities and efficiencies as needed. This role requires a strong communicator and strategic thinker who is eager to make a meaningful impact on crew resources, supporting the company's fleet, network, and strategic plans. The position is hybrid, requiring employees to work onsite at the Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, at least three days a week, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Represents the Crew Resource Planning Team and their interests with various departments, participating in meetings and committees as assigned.
  • Lead/support analysis, evaluates strategies, and makes recommendations to improve performance measures and reporting.
  • Lead/support the research and analysis of trends, and the development of new processes/tools/reports to support greater efficiency for Flight Operations Crew Planning, Scheduling, and Training.
  • Conducts studies using optimization to inform future Pilot staffing and Training Center utilization needs and interfaces with Network Planning for feedback on future schedule development.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and evaluation of the Pilot Staffing headcount model and innovates additional capabilities and efficiencies.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and evaluation of the Training Resource Planning model and communicates solutions and challenges.
  • Identify strategic opportunities for the Training Center for staffing of Instructors, Check Airmen, and device utilization.
  • Creates business analyses, including financial outlooks, for Pilot staffing and Training Center resources.
  • Provides technical guidance on principles and topics within Flight Operations Crew Planning, Scheduling, and Training.
  • Leads/supports operational and cost improvements for staffing, crew pairings, daily open time assignment, and irregular operations management.
  • Interfaces with and supports Leaders in Crew Planning, Scheduling, Training, and other departmental Employees on a daily basis.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Advanced level experience in analytical, operational, data analysis/collection, presentation, and/or consulting.
  • Experience in data collection, analysis, and presentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including strong Excel experience (pivot tables, look up functions, etc.), MS Access (DB queries, etc.), and PowerPoint.
  • Skilled in designing and conducting analyses, synthesizing complex recommendations, and understanding data relationships.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; experience with spreadsheets or other quantitative modeling.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage optimization software, interpret results, and create iterative processes for improvement.
