About the position

The Vashon Food Bank is seeking a dedicated and passionate Communications and Volunteer Program Manager to join our team. This full-time position is crucial in supporting our mission to enhance food security on Vashon Island and connect individuals with essential resources. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the recruitment, scheduling, and management of our volunteer program, which is vital to our operations. We host over 80 volunteers weekly and more than 250 annually, making effective volunteer management a key component of this role. In addition to volunteer management, the Communications and Volunteer Program Manager will play a significant role in fostering positive community relations. This includes maintaining our social media presence and overseeing all communications related to the food bank. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong problem-solving skills. They should also be adept at building and maintaining relationships with a diverse range of individuals and groups, ensuring that our outreach efforts resonate with the community we serve. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community by enhancing our volunteer program and improving our communication strategies. The successful candidate will work closely with other staff members and volunteers to ensure that our programs run smoothly and effectively, ultimately contributing to the food bank's mission of supporting those in need.

Responsibilities

  • Lead recruitment and scheduling of volunteers for various programs and events.
  • Manage the volunteer program, ensuring effective communication and support for all volunteers.
  • Maintain the food bank's social media accounts and oversee all communications to the community.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance community relations and engagement.
  • Organize volunteer training sessions and ensure volunteers are well-prepared for their roles.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to coordinate events and outreach efforts.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in volunteer management or community engagement.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and build strong relationships.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to think outside the box.
