About the position

The ATCAA Food Bank Program Operations Assistant plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the Food Bank. This position involves a variety of responsibilities that ensure the smooth functioning of the program, including safe food handling, inventory management, and logistics related to food distribution. The assistant will be involved in shipping, receiving, loading, and securing food for delivery, as well as maintaining the vehicles and equipment used in the operations. The role also requires the assistant to acquire food supplies from local and out-of-area sources, ensuring that the Food Bank is well-stocked to meet community needs. In addition to operational tasks, the Food Bank Program Operations Assistant will supervise a team of volunteers, including Volunteer Drivers, Inventory Clerks, and Clerical Assistants. This includes recruiting, training, and overseeing volunteers to ensure that all assignments are completed effectively. The assistant will also coordinate inventory processes for all direct service programs, which involves receipting, stocking, and maintaining accurate records of food supplies. The role requires a commitment to safe food handling practices and the upkeep of necessary logs, including the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) log. The assistant will also be responsible for maintaining operational documentation, such as inventories, invoices, and schedules, and will assist in food bank events and other tasks as assigned by the Food Bank Operations Manager. As part of the ATCAA team, the assistant is expected to demonstrate a professional attitude, maintain confidentiality, and ensure that all work is completed safely and in accordance with ATCAA's policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with all food bank program operations including general maintenance of facility, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Practice safe food handling procedures and maintain necessary logs.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to accomplish assignments.
  • Arrange orders and procure supplies to maintain adequate program supplies.
  • Maintain food bank partnerships for supplies with other food bank associations such as Feeding America and Farm To Family.
  • Coordinate inventory processes including receipting, stocking, rotation of stock, and physical inventory reconciliations.
  • Maintain operational program documentation including inventories, invoices, orders, and schedules.
  • Supervise volunteers to pick up and deliver foods to pre-determined sites.
  • Assist with food bank events and other operational tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Possess a continuously valid California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Own dependable transportation.
  • Have basic computer skills.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to keep accurate written records.
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds.
