About the position

The Food & Beverage Manager at Central Council Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the food and beverage service staff across various facilities, including Sacred Grounds and Smokehouse Catering. This position is essential in ensuring that the highest level of member service is maintained during operating hours, while also ensuring a clean and safe environment. The manager will be tasked with meeting financial goals related to sales and expenses, which requires a comprehensive understanding of inventory management, effective communication, and collaboration with the Hospitality Inventory Coordinator. The incumbent will actively participate in fostering a positive team environment through teamwork and excellence in service. In this role, the Food & Beverage Manager will manage all service aspects in assigned areas and events, ensuring that all staff are in proper uniform and adhere to the organization's appearance standards. The manager will be responsible for hiring, training, and managing staff, creating and distributing weekly schedules, and conducting pre-shift meetings to ensure smooth operations. Performance evaluations and disciplinary actions will also fall under the manager's purview, in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. The Food & Beverage Manager will also be responsible for maintaining accurate inventory levels, conducting monthly beverage inventories, and ensuring that all areas are secure upon closing. The role requires a strong focus on customer satisfaction, with the manager expected to handle inquiries and concerns effectively, while also collaborating with the Chef to create appealing menus. Overall, this position demands a proactive approach to managing multiple projects and ensuring that all service operations run efficiently and effectively, contributing to a pleasant dining experience for all members and guests.

Responsibilities

  • Manage service aspects in all food and beverage assigned areas and events, ensuring high levels of member and guest satisfaction.
  • Oversee Smokehouse Catering and Sacred Grounds, ensuring proper staff attendance, supply orders, and timely deliveries.
  • Ensure all service staff adhere to uniform and appearance standards set by Tlingit and Haida.
  • Hire, manage, and train staff in both technical and non-technical aspects of their roles, including quality and service standards.
  • Create, maintain, and distribute weekly staff schedules, communicating any changes as necessary.
  • Conduct pre-shift, pre-meal, and pre-event meetings with staff to ensure readiness.
  • Evaluate and supervise staff performance, carrying out disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Perform monthly beverage inventories and quarterly inventories of dishware, glassware, and silverware.
  • Open and close facilities, ensuring security and proper shutdown procedures are followed.
  • Act as Manager on Duty when other management staff are unavailable, supervising remaining staff and tasks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive responsibility in the food and beverage industry.
  • Minimum of 4 years of personnel management experience, preferably in the hospitality/service industry.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with vendors and managers.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping is necessary.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's Degree in hospitality management, Supply Chain Management/Business Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in inventory management within the hospitality industry is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are desirable.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities are beneficial.
  • Proficient in using inventory management software and MS Office applications.
