About the position

The Production Assistant Manager supports the Production Manager in overseeing daily operations of food manufacturing, ensuring that all finished goods are produced efficiently and safely. This role involves training employees, coordinating with various departments, and maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards to deliver high-quality products to customers on time.

Responsibilities

  • Complete weekly inspection tasks and report corrective actions taken.
  • Implement standard operating procedures for production operations.
  • Train new employees on standard operating procedures.
  • Create and provide training structure for new hires and under-performing employees.
  • Ensure lock-out tag-out procedures are followed at all times.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance for PMs and equipment repairs.
  • Submit work orders for repairs or improvements.
  • Ensure quality control checks are conducted correctly and timely.
  • Monitor temperature control equipment, metal detectors, and scales.
  • Oversee cleaning practices in all areas of the facility.
  • Enforce adherence to allergen programs and GMP standards.
  • Conduct line inspections and in-process checks.
  • Perform traceability exercises and assist with recall procedures.
  • Ensure Compliance/QA receives retained samples of all products run during shifts.
  • Anticipate issues and proactively resolve problems.
  • Conduct employee evaluations and reviews.
  • Review production schedules and make necessary corrections.
  • Follow daily and weekly production plans to meet orders on time.
  • Document employee-related issues in partnership with HR.
  • Track improvements in reduction of downtime and performance against schedule.
  • Drive continuous improvement through change management processes.
  • Monitor waste and implement improvements to reduce waste in production processes.
  • Complete and submit daily supervisor reports to the Production Manager.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in food production or processing within the food industry.
  • Familiarity with CGMP standards and FDA regulations related to food safety.
  • Strong leadership skills to manage a diverse team effectively.
  • Basic math skills for accurate inventory tracking and production planning.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience operating forklifts (training may be provided).
  • Background in GMP's, HACCP, and SOP's preferred.
  • Experience with baked goods.
