About the position
Leah's Pantry is seeking a part-time Food Navigator to support food distributions at affordable housing sites in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. This role focuses on improving food security and building relationships with residents to encourage participation in nutrition programs. The Food Navigator will assist with on-site food distributions and contribute ideas for program improvement, all while working within a trauma-informed framework to enhance community health and resilience.
Responsibilities
- Support food distributions at affordable housing sites.
- Understand food security and basic needs of residents.
- Create relationships with residents to encourage program participation.
- Assist with on-site food distributions, including transportation of food and pre-bagging food.
- Remind residents about upcoming distributions.
- Contribute ideas for improving the program.
Requirements
- Relevant work experience or strong interest in food security, public health, nutrition, or community organizing.
- Availability to work on specified days of the month between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. PST.
- Must live in or be willing to travel to multiple locations in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, walk around, and stand for long periods of time.
- Reliable transportation.
Nice-to-haves
- Bilingual candidates (especially Spanish, Russian, Persian, Cantonese, or Mandarin) preferred but not required.
- Relevant lived experience in food security or community organizing.
