About the position

The Food Pantry Assistant at Springfield Technical Community College plays a crucial role in supporting students facing food insecurity. This position involves assisting in the daily operations of the Ram Mini Mart, an on-campus food pantry, and participating in food security initiatives and nutrition education programs. The assistant will work closely with the Center for Access Services to enhance student self-sufficiency and improve overall completion and graduation rates.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily operations of the food pantry and all food insecurity/hunger awareness initiatives and events, including inventory management, food order processing, and data collection.
  • Work closely with CAS staff to manage and maintain accurate records/data pertaining to food pantry usage and food security programs.
  • Draft monthly, semester, and/or annual reports on program usage and opportunities for improvement.
  • Stay current on best practices of food pantry management and food security and apply these principles.
  • Manage a high volume of incoming referrals while maintaining professionalism and customer service.
  • Participate in meetings, college committees, and professional development activities as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • An Associates degree required.
  • Demonstrated experience in food pantry operations, record keeping, customer service, and/or higher education.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality laws/policies and experience working with sensitive/confidential information.
  • Knowledge and experience of laws/policies pertaining to food safety standards, preferred.
  • Ability to become ServSafe certified upon hire.
  • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to lift medium to heavy objects.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to follow oral and written directions.
  • A working knowledge of database applications and software.
  • Strong computer skills are required.
  • Experience working with a diverse population and promoting cultural acceptance and respect, with a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, strong organization skills, detail-oriented, and good with the public.

  • Knowledge and experience of laws/policies pertaining to food safety standards.

Benefits

  • Salary: $18 per hour, up to 18.5 hours per week.
  • Flexible schedule within hours of operation, with occasional evening and weekend work.
