About the position

The Food Programs Manager at The Salvation Army oversees all food-related programs at the Waterloo/Cedar Falls location. This role is responsible for managing the daily operations of the food pantry and meal preparation for community services, ensuring high-quality food handling and safety standards are met. The position involves supervising volunteers and staff, planning nutritious meals, and maintaining inventory and records for food programs.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the food pantry and food storage areas.
• Plan and prepare nutritious meals for the community lunch program.
• Supervise kitchen activities, meal preparation, meal service, and clean up.
• Delegate tasks to kitchen assistants, volunteers, and AARP placements.
• Provide guidance and training for volunteers and placement workers.
• Oversee Food Pantry Giveaway activities and volunteers.
• Order necessary supplies for the program and maintain inventory.
• Coordinate with Shelter staff to assess food needs.
• Prepare snack and dinner plans for the Youth Center in collaboration with the Youth Outreach Director.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and dining areas.
• Ensure compliance with Iowa Department of Health safety and sanitation policies.
• Prepare food for holiday meals and supervise serving of Thanksgiving and other holiday meals.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of experience in food preparation for large quantities of people.
• Experience related to food storage, preparation, serving, and sanitation.

Nice-to-haves

• Basic skills in Microsoft software for payroll and data access.
• Administrative skills including data entry and attention to detail.
• Good written and spoken communication skills.

Benefits

• Starting salary of $16 per hour.
• Part-time schedule from Monday to Friday, 8am to 1pm.
