About the position
The Food Scientist position at Tyson Foods is responsible for developing and commercializing new and improved food products and processes. This role involves all stages of product and process development, including writing specifications, ensuring compliance with regulatory and food safety standards, and collaborating with various departments to facilitate smooth product launches. The scientist will leverage their knowledge of food science to conduct research focused on food safety, shelf life, and optimization efforts, while effectively communicating findings to the business and leadership teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop and commercialize new and improved food products and processes.
- Write new product specifications and ensure compliance with regulatory labeling and food safety requirements.
- Develop samples and prototypes of new products and modify existing products.
- Optimize existing products and develop specifications for product production labeling.
- Compile cost analysis information for product management.
- Work with marketing, insights, sales, culinary, FSQA, operations, and purchasing departments.
- Coordinate with suppliers of ingredients and ensure smooth start-up for new product production processes.
- Conduct research focused on food safety, shelf life, sensory technologies, and yield improvement.
- Analyze, interpret, and present data for effective communication of product development findings.
- Identify, develop, and complete special projects as needed.
Requirements
- BS, MS, or PhD in Food Science, Meat Science, Food Engineering, or related field; or a minimum of 10 years relevant experience without a degree.
- PhD with a minimum of 2 years, MS with a minimum of 3 years, or BS with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office and Tyson systems.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong project management and numerical skills.
