About the position

The Food Server / Substitute Teacher Assistant role involves serving meals to children in a Head Start program while assisting teachers and maintaining a clean kitchen environment. This part-time position focuses on food service, classroom support, and ensuring a hygienic setting for meal times.

Responsibilities

• Monitor temperature of food and serve according to menu serving sizes.
• Transport dishes, plates, and silverware to classrooms for teachers.
• Fill silverware containers and ensure adequate napkins are available during service.
• Sanitize bottles, test water, and clean kitchen equipment.
• Provide breaks for Teacher's Assistants and Teachers when possible.
• Assist staff in cleaning classrooms by washing tables and emptying trash cans.
• Clean the kitchen daily, including sweeping floors and wiping surfaces.
• Check and report daily supply needs for food service.
• Fill condiment containers as needed for future meals.
• Fulfill food service requests from teachers and assistants.

Requirements

• Ability to serve food and monitor food safety standards.
• Experience in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred.
• Good communication skills to interact with teachers and staff.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working with children in an educational setting.
• Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
