About the position

The Food Service Assistant I position at Stockton Unified School District involves assisting in the preparation and serving of hot and cold foods to students and staff. This entry-level role requires maintaining cleanliness in food service facilities and equipment, as well as performing point of sale duties. The position is crucial in ensuring that students receive nutritious meals in a safe and sanitary environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the quantity preparation and serving of foods at an assigned school site.
• Maintain food service facilities, equipment, and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition.
• Prepare food and beverages for sale; count and set-up plates, trays, and utensils.
• Assist in preparing foods for special needs diets.
• Assist in the receipt, storage, and rotation of food items and supplies.
• Train and provide guidance to other food service professionals as needed.
• Operate food service equipment such as ovens, warmers, and slicers.
• Perform cashiering and POS duties such as taking meal counts and collecting money.
• Complete and maintain records such as production records and sales reports.
• Communicate with students, staff, and parents to exchange information.

Requirements

• Completion of twelfth grade or equivalent.
• Any combination of education, training, and/or experience equivalent to six months of experience in quantity food preparation or service.
• Completion of course and passing exam for California Food Handlers Permit within three months after appointment.
• First Aid and CPR certificates must be obtained within sixty days from date of hire.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a food service environment.
