About the position

The Food Service Coordinator at Lower Eastside Service Center is responsible for supervising and participating in the food preparation and service operations, ensuring compliance with NYC nutrition standards and health regulations. This role involves menu development, inventory management, and training clients in food preparation and sanitation practices, while also representing the organization during audits and liaising with medical staff to promote good nutrition among residents.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate in the requisition, inspection, preparation, cooking, and portioning of food.
  • Adhere to Department of Health and OSHA regulations regarding proper kitchen hygiene and maintenance.
  • Develop menu types, structures, contents, and cycles.
  • Develop food specifications for purchase that adhere to dietary prescriptions and FDA quality standards.
  • Prepare and monitor food and hygiene inventories.
  • Ensure safety and sanitation standards are met in the kitchen and basement.
  • Represent LESC to auditors from OASAS and CARF during audits of the kitchen and basement.
  • Liaise with medical and clinical staff to develop educational programs on good nutrition and meal preparations.
  • Maintain all appliances in working order and arrange for service for items in need of repairs.
  • Attend food shows, seminars, and conferences to stay abreast of industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Supervise and train clients in food preparation, sanitation, and cooking basics.
  • Participate in the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Interface with sanitation representatives for timely garbage removal.
  • Fill in for other staff on leave as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Food Handlers' License.
  • Five years of experience in management of health care or food service settings or equivalent experience in cooking and nutrition.
  • Computer literacy.
