About the position

The Food Service General Worker at Broward County Public Schools is responsible for the preparation and service of nutritionally adequate meals while ensuring compliance with food safety standards and production deadlines. This entry-level position emphasizes customer service and teamwork in a school environment, contributing to the overall goal of providing quality meals to students.

Responsibilities

  • Follow daily work schedules for food production, service, and cleaning.
  • Participate in ongoing state-approved training and educational initiatives related to Food & Nutrition Services.
  • Demonstrate and promote exceptional customer service when interacting with the public, students, parents, and staff.
  • Operate point-of-sale systems according to federal guidelines when assigned.
  • Adhere to food safety rules, departmental procedures, and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).
  • Perform kitchen duties including pre-preparation, food production, service, backup, clean-up, and check-in orders.
  • Assist in ensuring safe meal service and quality food according to approved meal pattern requirements.
  • Assist with ordering, proper storage, and inventories for all supplies and food items received.
  • Follow written recipes and instructions for food preparation and record necessary data on production worksheets.
  • Operate food service equipment safely and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Ensure sanitation practices are adhered to, including compliance with personal hygiene and grooming standards.
  • Drive vans and refrigerated/freezer trucks for food delivery as directed.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance skills related to job responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Prior food service or cashier work experience.
  • Ability to follow directions, read, and communicate in English.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, teachers, and school administrators.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

Nice-to-haves

  • A standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved GED Testing Program.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Bilingual skills.

Benefits
