About the position

The Food Service Manager at Hy-Vee is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while overseeing the food service department. This role involves managing staff, ensuring food quality and presentation, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. The manager will work closely with chefs and other personnel to create appealing menus and manage inventory effectively, all while adhering to health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, loading or unloading heavy items, and addressing customer suggestions or requests.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call, including taking product orders.
  • Reviews daily production list with department employees and assigns tasks for completion.
  • Ensures food display case product is rotated and replenished.
  • Scans the kitchen area for cleanliness and safety issues and assigns tasks to kitchen staff.
  • Oversees food quality and presentation for all departments.
  • Oversees inventory within all departments.
  • Works with chefs to plan popular menus and manage supply provisioning.
  • Estimates food and beverage costs and supervises portion control to minimize waste.
  • Performs frequent checks to ensure high quality of preparation and service.
  • Sets department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, and profitability.
  • Analyzes sales trends and prepares ad projections.
  • Monitors staff and customer actions to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Investigates and resolves complaints concerning food quality and service.
  • Arranges for maintenance and repair of equipment and services.
  • Directs hiring, training, and scheduling of food service personnel.
  • Enforces sanitary practices for food handling and cleanliness.
  • Handles and satisfies customer issues.

Requirements

  • Must possess excellent hospitality skills.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another; and guide people.

Nice-to-haves

  • Sanitation (Food Safety) courses encouraged.
  • One year of similar or related experience.
