About the position
The Food Service Worker position at Siuslaw School District is a part-time role responsible for various food service activities, including food preparation, cooking, and serving meals to students and staff. This position operates under the supervision of the Food Service Manager and is designed to support the district's food service operations during the school year, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve food in a safe manner.
- Assist in the setup of serving areas.
- Maintain supplies of food and beverages and clean up spills.
- Ensure proper storage of food and supplies.
- Clean and store kitchen equipment daily.
- Follow health department standards and guidelines set by the Food Service Manager.
- Assist in maintaining an inventory of food and equipment.
- Handle cash and make change for students and staff.
- Participate in in-service training as assigned.
- Act as a friendly ambassador for the Siuslaw School District.
Requirements
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- One year of experience in food service is preferred.
- Ability to prepare food and work with portion control.
- Ability to operate industrial kitchen equipment such as dishwashers, mixers, and ovens.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices.
- Ability to supervise student helpers in the kitchen.
- Effective communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions accurately.
- Basic math skills including counting and basic arithmetic.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Nice-to-haves
- Valid Food Handler's Certificate or ability to obtain one within 30 days.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
- First Aid Training and CPR Certification (training provided by District).
- Valid Oregon Driver's License.
