About the position

Under the supervision of the designated site Facility Coordinator, the Food Service Workers at Mirror Inc. are responsible for managing food inventory, grocery shopping, and meal preparation for their assigned residential facility. The role requires adherence to the policies set forth by the Mirror Board of Directors, as implemented by supervisors, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Food Service Workers must ensure agency compliance with various standards, including those from the Social and Rehabilitation Services, Division of Health Care Policy, Mental Health and Addiction and Prevention Services Licensure Standards, and the Kansas Department of Corrections contract agreements. They must also adhere to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Bureau of Environment Health Services Food Service Establishment Regulations, as well as any local ordinances related to food preparation, dietary standards, and facility conditions specific to Mirror food service. The Food Service Workers are tasked with maintaining confidentiality regarding offenders (clients) as required by federal law. They will supervise offenders assigned to assist with meal preparation tasks and ensure the safety of residents and staff by keeping the kitchen free from potential hazards. This includes being aware of and working to meet all fire and health safety codes, maintaining documentation of inspections by E-Kan on the Fire Suppression System, and monitoring the inspections of fire extinguishers in the kitchen and dining buildings. The role involves institutional-style meal preparation for all residents at designated sites, menu planning, grocery list preparation, and local grocery shopping. Additionally, Food Service Workers are responsible for inventory control of food, ensuring cleanliness of kitchen and dining facilities, and compliance with dietary needs as determined by medical personnel. They may also consult with other program staff and perform other duties as directed by the Food Service Coordinator or designated site Facility Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain offender (client) and program confidentiality as required by federal law.
  • Supervise offenders assigned to assist with meal preparation tasks.
  • Ensure the safety of residents and staff by keeping the kitchen free from potential hazards.
  • Become aware of and work to meet all fire and health safety codes.
  • Maintain documentation of inspections by E-Kan on the Fire Suppression System.
  • Monitor inspections on fire extinguishers in the kitchen and dining buildings and conduct monthly sight checks.
  • Perform institutional style meal preparation for all residents at designated sites.
  • Plan menus and prepare grocery lists on a weekly basis.
  • Conduct local grocery shopping and manage inventory control of food on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure cleanliness of kitchen and dining facilities at designated sites.
  • Ensure compliance with dietary needs for residents as determined by medical personnel.
  • Consult with other program staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Food Service Coordinator or designated site Facility Coordinator.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development certificate.
  • Vocational/Technical courses and/or work-related experience in institutional meal preparation is required.
  • Experience in supervising and interacting with persons addicted to drugs or the offender population is desirable.
  • Experience in the safe operation of commercial-sized kitchen equipment is required.
  • Good reading, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through with multiple tasks related to meal preparation for 50+ clients.
  • Capable of working overtime hours past 40.
  • Awareness of the disease of addiction.
  • Must be able to pass background/security check.
  • Employees diagnosed with any type of substance use disorder or behavioral addiction/compulsion must have sustained a minimum of two consecutive years of abstinence from all intoxicating substances and symptoms of their chemical and/or behavioral addiction; and must be in full sustained remission.
  • Must be proficient in computer literacy.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in supervising and interacting with persons addicted to drugs or the offender population would be desirable.
