The worker will operate dishwashers and wash trays, plates, utensils, and other serving equipment. Additionally, the worker will assist in setting up food preparation lines and will be responsible for heating, setting up, selling, and serving food to students and faculty. The role also involves cleaning and storing kitchen equipment and assisting in food preparation tasks such as making sandwiches, mixing salads, grating cheese, and preparing fruits and vegetables. In some instances, the worker may act as a cashier, which includes counting cash receipts and maintaining simple records. This position is essential in supporting the food service operations within the school district, contributing to the overall well-being and satisfaction of the students and staff by providing nutritious meals in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Clean serving counters, tables, chairs, food containers and other equipment
  • Operate dishwasher and wash trays, plates, utensils and other serving equipment
  • Assist in setting up food preparation lines
  • Heat, set up, sell and serve food to students and faculty
  • Clean and store kitchen equipment
  • Assist in preparing sandwiches, mixing salads, grating cheese, and preparing fruits and vegetables
  • Act as cashier, which includes counting cash receipt and maintaining simple records

Requirements

  • Some food service experience preferred
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
  • Knowledge of basic methods of preparing and serving foods in large quantities
  • Knowledge of standard food service appliances and equipment
  • Ability to operate a variety of food service equipment
  • Ability to collect money and make change accurately
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to use new equipment and technology as it becomes required to perform this job

  • Willingness to be trained and to substitute in the Lead Food Service School Worker I or II position
