About the position
The Food Service Worker position is a part-time role specifically designed for high school students aged 16-18 in Nome, Alaska. The role involves various tasks related to food service, including cleaning, food preparation, and maintenance within a school kitchen environment. This position provides students with an opportunity to gain work experience while contributing to their school community.
Responsibilities
- Washes objects by hand or with cleaning equipment.
- Cleans dishes, utensils, pots, pans, etc., and places them in assigned storage areas in an organized manner.
- Maintains a variety of products at certain levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas including service machines.
- Stocks storage areas with various products.
- Cleans, sweeps, wipes down all general dining, kitchen, or storage areas, and equipment as well as all floors.
- Removes garbage from assigned areas, sets up or breaks down tables, snack bars, display cases, serving lines, etc.
- Assists with various periodically scheduled large cleaning projects.
- Assists cooks and others as needed and coordinates activities with others.
- Performs other duties pertinent to the department's success.
Requirements
- Must have some knowledge of food service or food preparation suitable for this type of work.
- Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
- Must be able to obtain Alaska Food Worker's Card within 30 days of hire.
Nice-to-haves
- At least one year of work experience or documented vocational training sufficient to demonstrate knowledge of cleaning equipment, food preparation, and general cleaning processes.
