About the position

The Food Service Worker at the VA Central California Health Care System (VACCHCS) plays a vital role in the Nutrition & Food Service department, responsible for a variety of food preparation, serving, and cleaning tasks. This position requires knowledge of basic food handling techniques and involves direct interaction with patients, ensuring their dietary needs are met while maintaining a clean and safe food service environment.

Responsibilities

• Cleans serving areas by sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning/sanitizing work surfaces, and food service equipment.
• Cleans production equipment using appropriate sanitation techniques.
• Loads and operates dishwashers and cart washing stations.
• Performs necessary preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Transports tray carts to wards and delivers trays directly to patients' bedsides.
• Sets up serving areas with hot and cold foods, ensuring appropriate stock during meal service.
• Identifies discrepancies between prescribed diets and food items on tray tickets.
• Assembles a variety of items in the cold food preparation area.
• Makes cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this job.
• Ability to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position through training or experience.
• Experience in food service work, including handling weights and loads, following directions, and reliability.
