About the position

The Food Services Assistant (FSA) at Houston Methodist is responsible for various tasks in the kitchen and patient service areas, including food preparation, tray assembly, and customer service. The role involves transporting food carts, performing dishwashing duties, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. The FSA interacts positively with patients and staff, contributing to a team-oriented environment while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and service quality.

Responsibilities

• Assist in tray assembly for patients and simple food preparation.
• Serve customers and replenish stations as needed.
• Transport food carts to and from kitchen areas and patient care units.
• Perform dishwashing duties as assigned.
• Communicate with peers and management regarding workplace hazards and sanitation procedures.
• Prepare and serve simple food items as directed by production sheets or menus.
• Deliver trays accurately and efficiently to designated locations.
• Maintain clean and orderly storage areas for food items and supplies.
• Retrieve soiled trays and return carts in a timely manner.
• Ensure all supplies are stocked for patient tray line during meal periods.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent education preferred.
• Experience in a food service environment or large service establishment preferred.
• Food Handlers Permit from Texas Department of State Health Services or ANSI.

Nice-to-haves

• Working knowledge of Serve Safe guidelines and Health department standards.
• Knowledge of food service equipment and sanitation principles.
