About the position

The Food Services Supervisor position at the Michigan Department of Corrections involves assisting in the management of food service operations within a correctional facility. This role is responsible for overseeing the preparation and serving of three daily meals to a large population, ensuring compliance with nutritional standards, safety protocols, and sanitation practices. The supervisor will also act in the absence of the Food Service Director and collaborate with custody staff to maintain security and safety within the facility.

Responsibilities

• Assist in directing the food service operation at a correctional facility.
• Oversee the preparation of three meals daily for 900 or more servings per meal.
• Ensure compliance with nutritional standards and safe food handling practices.
• Supervise food service staff and coordinate with custody staff for safety and security.
• Act as the Food Service Director in their absence and carry out departmental goals.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Six years of experience in large quantity cooking and food preparation tasks.
• Two years of experience equivalent to a Food Services Supervisor 9 or a Food Services Leader-Prisoner E9, or one year equivalent to a Food Services Supervisor 10.
