About the position

The Food Support Worker position at the Florida Department of Military Affairs involves preparing and serving food, ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards, and maintaining kitchen organization. Responsibilities

  • Estimates food requirements for preparation of meals.
  • Prepares a variety of hot or cold food items according to menu, recipe and production work sheets.
  • Places food on serving lines as needed during each meal period.
  • Properly handles and refrigerates leftovers by using proper sanitary guidelines.
  • Follows state and facility safety procedures in the operation of food preparation equipment.
  • Follows state and facility sanitation procedures in the cleaning and maintenance of food preparation equipment and kitchen areas.
  • Maintains proper safety temperature controls on all food items served.
  • Cleans, organizes, and sanitizes all storage areas.
  • Keeps all chemicals and cleaning products properly stored and away from food sources.
  • Verifies incoming shipments of food items by reading purchase order.
  • Identifies purchase order requirements for paper products, cleaning supplies and food service utensils.
  • Maintains accountability of food items prepared and in storage areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of food preparation principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of food sanitation principles.
  • Knowledge of computer software and applications.
  • Ability to operate food preparation equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed instructions, recipes, and production work sheets.
  • Ability to work with kitchen helpers in a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to provide customer service during the serving of meals.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to perform physical activities including lifting, bending, climbing, and handling equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to handle extreme heat and cold temperatures.
