About the position

The Strength & Conditioning Coordinator at Maine Maritime Academy is a full-time position responsible for coaching a varsity sport and enhancing the physical and mental development of student-athletes. This role involves organizing and directing all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division III program while ensuring compliance with NCAA and conference regulations. The coordinator will also develop training programs to improve athlete performance and safety, monitor academic and personal growth, and manage the program's budget.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and direct all aspects of a successful NCAA Division III program.
  • Recruit and retain a roster of student-athletes.
  • Conduct high-quality teaching in a humane learning environment.
  • Monitor and promote the academic and personal growth of student-athletes.
  • Develop and manage the program's budget.
  • Operate the program in accordance with NCAA and NAC bylaws.
  • Develop and maintain alumni support for the program.
  • Supervise assistant coaches.
  • Develop and implement policies affecting the strength and conditioning program in conjunction with certified athletic training staff.
  • Provide assistance to student-athletes for proper techniques and training strategies.
  • Monitor athletic strength and fitness facilities for safety and technical instruction.
  • Coordinate sports-specific programs for physical strength, speed, and cardiovascular conditioning.
  • Instruct and supervise student-athletes on proper weight training techniques.
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of the Athletics' weight room.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • College-level playing experience in relevant sport.
  • A minimum of 3 years prior experience coaching at the collegiate level.
  • Must have (or obtain within 30 days of hire) AED / CPR / First Aid Certification.
  • Computer proficiency/knowledge of Windows Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Energetic, flexible, and willing to work evenings and weekends.
  • Team-oriented with effective communication skills in person and in writing.
  • Public speaking experience is required.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Background check required.
