About the position

The Foreign Language French/Spanish Teacher at Bel Air Middle School is responsible for providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences that foster their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will develop competencies and skills in students to help them function successfully in society and prepare them for college. This role requires adherence to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and regulations. The teacher will create lesson plans that meet the district's curriculum requirements and reflect accommodations for diverse learning styles, ensuring high levels of student engagement. In addition to planning and implementing lessons based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the teacher will collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs). The teacher will also work with other instructional program teachers to set instructional goals and objectives. Utilizing technology to enhance the teaching and learning process is essential, as is creating a classroom environment conducive to learning. The teacher will manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and maintain open communication with parents, students, and colleagues. The role includes assessing student achievement through formative and summative assessments, providing feedback, and planning instructional activities accordingly. The teacher will also sponsor extracurricular activities and serve as a positive role model for students. Participation in professional development activities is required to stay informed about best practices and comply with certification requirements. The position may also involve virtual and online teaching duties, requiring the teacher to plan and implement appropriate instructional strategies for distance learning, maintain communication with students and parents, and create a virtual classroom environment that supports student development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district's curriculum requirements.
  • Prepare lesson plans that accommodate different student learning styles and instructional needs.
  • Use TEKS as instructional objectives to plan teaching and present subject matter.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment.
  • Help students analyze and improve their study methods and habits.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students.
  • Work with other instructional program teachers to determine instructional goals and methods.
  • Utilize technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment for learning and student development.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of instructional aides and volunteers.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships and communication with parents and community members.
  • Conduct frequent conferences with parents and students regarding student achievement.
  • Provide formative and summative assessments of student achievement and use results for instructional planning.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Participate in training and staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies for virtual learning as assigned.
  • Communicate with students and parents regularly via various methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for the subject and level assigned.
  • Demonstrated competency in the academic subject area assigned.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior effectively.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum experience as a student teacher or approved internship.
