About the position

The Underground Foreman will oversee the work of their crew in underground construction projects, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and efficient operations. This role requires hands-on involvement in various construction tasks while also managing and training crew members. The position necessitates travel across the Pacific Northwest for project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all phases of underground construction.
  • Load, drive, deliver, dig, remove, and place construction materials and equipment.
  • Restore and landscape disturbed areas of the job site.
  • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, and traffic barricades.
  • Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications.
  • Identify utilities in the trench/bore path.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained.
  • Maintain a clean and safe job site.
  • Follow all on-site safety procedures.
  • Report incidents to the Supervisor or Safety Manager immediately.
  • Contact the permitted city Inspector.
  • Submit daily timecards for crew members.
  • Submit daily Pre-trip inspections and JHA's.
  • Operate all heavy equipment in a safe manner.
  • Complete monthly assigned 'Got Safety' lessons.
  • Manage the crew and ensure productivity.
  • Complete as-builts and hand in completed prints.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in underground construction.
  • Ability to read maps, plans, and blueprints.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper operation and safety standards for heavy equipment.
  • 1-3 years of experience operating heavy machinery, including loaders, dozers, backhoes, and excavators.
  • Traffic Control Maintainer certificate.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Valid driver's license or eligibility to obtain the required license.
  • Good driving record.
  • Basic knowledge of utility trucks and equipment operation.
  • Effective communication skills with customers and employees.
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed.
  • Class A CDL is a plus.
  • OSHA 10 certificate.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous construction experience, preferably in the underground industry.
  • Ability to follow directions and take initiative.
  • Understanding of daily maintenance for underground equipment.
