About the position

The Foreman Structural Steel position is responsible for overseeing multiple crews in the erection and fabrication of structural steel. This role requires extensive knowledge of iron/steel processes, the ability to read blueprints, and the management of safety protocols on-site. The foreman will ensure that all work is completed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with project specifications while leading a team of craft workers.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work, including locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
  • Identify all tools required for tasks and manage safety risks and precautions.
  • Manage multiple crews regarding scheduling, processes, sequences, time, and cost.
  • Illustrate in-depth knowledge of all iron/steel processes and hoist equipment into location via bull rigging or crane.
  • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural-steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, and/or levels.
  • Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors.
  • Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting or bolting.
  • Pull, push, or pry iron/steel equipment into approximate positions for bolting into place.
  • Cut, bend, and weld iron/steel pieces using metal shears, torches, and welding equipment.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience as a Structural Ironworker.
  • 2+ years in a supervisory position.
  • Ability to manage multiple crews and plan workloads for various processes.
  • Ability to read and understand IFC drawings and craft specifications.
  • Knowledge of safe rigging practices and ability to dictate correct knots based on material.
  • Basic knowledge of welding and cutting torch operations.
