H2M architects + engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, and environmental consulting firm, is seeking a Forensic Accident Engineer for our Melville (Long Island) office location. This position is ideal for a dynamic engineer who will provide expert forensic analysis on residential and commercial engineering accident cases. The successful candidate will not only bring technical expertise to assignments but will also play a crucial role in developing and maintaining important business relationships throughout the industry. The role involves conducting forensic investigations and reporting in various engineering areas, including building/construction-related accidents, roadway-related accidents, and trip and falls. The engineer will conduct both commercial and residential forensic investigations to analyze and determine the cause, origin, and extent of defects (accidents) for insurance companies, attorneys, private homeowners, and property owners. This includes preparing expert forensic reports that summarize findings using accepted engineering principles, preparing for EBTs, and providing trial testimony. Additionally, the engineer will be responsible for researching technical publications and literature to support evaluations and applying engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards. Effective communication with staff and clients is essential to provide timelines and project updates consistently. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline, with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of 5-7 years of forensic investigation/accident/trip and fall experience, along with prior experience writing technical and inspection reports. Knowledge of building codes and commercial and residential liability is crucial, as is the ability to read and understand contracts and building plans. Experience working with law firms and insurance companies is preferred, and deposition and expert testimony experience is highly desirable.
