About the position

Haag, a leader in forensic engineering and consulting since 1924, is seeking an experienced Forensic Mechanical Engineer located in Florida. Working remotely from your home office in Florida, you will investigate and evaluate the root cause and extent of failures and damage to HVAC and MEP systems, building management systems (BMS), building automation systems (BAS), fire protection and fire alarm systems, and will assess various other types of mechanical failures primarily in Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and evaluate the root cause and extent of failures and damage to HVAC and MEP systems.
  • Assess building management systems (BMS) and building automation systems (BAS).
  • Evaluate fire protection and fire alarm systems.
  • Perform physical requirements of the job, including working in confined spaces and on roofs.
  • Travel locally, regionally, and nationally as needed by vehicle or by plane.
  • Work independently and with a cross-functional team of experts.
  • Write effective reports and communicate effectively in face-to-face interactions.
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients.

Requirements

  • Must be a licensed P.E. in Florida or eligible by reciprocity.
  • 5-10 years of on-the-job experience designing/working with mechanical equipment and systems.
  • At least 5 years of forensic engineering experience is strongly preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical requirements of the job.
  • Strong technical writing skills are required.
  • Strong verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Technical proficiency with computers, phones, cameras, and industry-related software applications is necessary.
  • Expert witness experience is expected.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional active licensures in surrounding states.
  • Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • CFI (IAAI) and/or CFEI (NAFI) certification(s) are strongly preferred.
