About the position

The Forest Manager 3 position at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources involves overseeing the management of Hocking State Forest and the administration of a privately-owned fire protection area. The role requires coordination of forest work, supervision of staff, and management of wildfire control programs, along with various administrative and public relations tasks. Responsibilities

  • Manage Hocking State Forest and oversee the administration of a privately-owned fire protection area.
  • Coordinate work performed in the forest and supervise assigned staff.
  • Manage, direct, and assist with the forest wildfire control and suppression program on state forest and private forest fire protection area.
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks and public relations duties.
  • Provide expertise needed for policy revisions and management planning.

Requirements

  • 18 months of training or 18 months of experience in forestry work.
  • 12 months of training or 12 months of experience in forest management.
  • 12 months of training or 12 months of experience in forest fire control, firefighting, and suppression techniques.
  • 12 months of training or 12 months of experience in supervisory principles/techniques.
  • 9 months of training or 9 months of experience in budgeting.
  • 6 months of training or 6 months of experience in public relations.
  • Completion of an undergraduate core program in forestry, along with relevant experience in the above areas, is also acceptable.
