About the position

The Forest Nursery Specialist at PRT is responsible for the management and production of bareroot forest seedlings aimed at reforestation efforts across the Southeastern United States. This role involves various activities such as equipment maintenance, seed treatment, planting, irrigation, fertilization, and harvesting, all while adhering to safety and environmental practices. The position requires a commitment to high-quality seedling production and teamwork within a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Fertilize, prune, irrigate, and inventory bareroot seedlings
• Operate, maintain, and repair nursery equipment (e.g., conveyors, forklift, farm tractors, seedling lifter)
• Assess seed germination
• Operate spray-rigs and fertilizer spreading equipment
• Assist in winterizing the irrigation system
• Support innovation and continuous improvement
• Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels
• Set targets (e.g., production, timelines) and evaluate achievement

Requirements

• High school degree or equivalent
• Valid Driver's License
• Strong familiarity and mechanical skill with farm equipment and tractors
• Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Strong verbal and written communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
• Great organizational and record-keeping skills
• Customer-driven and oriented
• Strong work ethic and ability to work well in a team

Nice-to-haves

• College degree in agriculture, forestry, or horticulture
• Knowledge of equipment maintenance, electrical, welding, and irrigation operation
