About the position

The Forest Ranger position within the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services focuses on wildland firefighting and forest management. Responsibilities

  • Prevent, detect, and suppress wildfires.
  • Provide technical forestry services and information to landowners.
  • Operate and maintain firefighting equipment including trucks and bulldozers.
  • Investigate wildfire causes and gather evidence.
  • Conduct fire detection through ground patrol or tower staffing.
  • Intensify public awareness of wildfires through educational programs.
  • Perform wildfire hazard mitigation work.
  • Assist in public lands management activities such as tree planting and timber marking.
  • Maintain public facilities on state lands.
  • Complete reports associated with wildfire management.
  • Respond to all-risk emergency incidents as required.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • No convictions related to certification or perjury.
  • Submit a fingerprint card for background check.
  • Good moral character as determined by investigation.
  • Good physical condition as determined by a medical examination.
  • Non-user of tobacco products for at least one year prior to application.
  • Possession of a valid driver license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six months of appointment.
  • Experience in wildland firefighting or forestry services.
