About The Position

The Forest Ranger position within the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services focuses on wildland firefighting, forest fire prevention, and providing technical forestry services. The role involves responding to emergencies, managing state lands, and educating the public about wildfire risks and prevention. The ranger will operate various firefighting equipment and assist in public lands management activities.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • No felony convictions or serious misdemeanors.
  • Good moral character as determined by investigation.
  • Good physical condition as determined by a medical examination.
  • Non-user of tobacco products for at least one year prior to application.
  • Possession of a valid driver license.
  • Obtain a Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) within three months of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in wildland firefighting or forestry management.
  • Knowledge of fire prevention techniques and equipment operation.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments.

Responsibilities

  • Prevent, detect, suppress, and manage wildfires.
  • Provide technical forestry services and information to landowners and industry representatives.
  • Assist with state lands management and public education on forestry.
  • Operate and maintain firefighting equipment, including engines and bulldozers.
  • Investigate wildfire causes and gather evidence for reporting.
  • Conduct fire detection through ground patrols or tower staffing.
  • Intensify public awareness of wildfire risks through educational programs.
  • Perform wildfire hazard mitigation work and assist in emergency incidents.
  • Provide technical forestry assistance under supervision, including timber inventory and tree planting.
  • Maintain public facilities and assist the public in utilizing state lands.
