About the position

The Forest and Watershed Health Manager at The Nature Conservancy is responsible for developing and advancing the goals of forest and watershed health in New Mexico, particularly through the Rio Grande Water Fund. This role involves managing programs, partnerships, and initiatives aimed at restoring at-risk forests and enhancing resilience in the face of climate change. The Manager will work collaboratively with various programs and stakeholders to ensure project integration and achieve conservation outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer goals for forest and watershed health in New Mexico.
  • Manage programs, plans, methods, and partnerships across large-scale geographic areas.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to the New Mexico business unit.
  • Plan, direct, and implement agreements, projects, and monitoring necessary for restoration goals.
  • Address critical threats to natural systems, particularly fire-adapted forests.
  • Foster cross-site learning among diverse partners, including tribal nations.
  • Develop and implement conservation strategies and secure support for conservation priorities.
  • Coordinate partner engagement and ensure accountability to investors and conservation partners.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in law, business, or a related field with 5 years of experience in natural resource management or related fields.
  • Experience in designing and implementing forest and watershed restoration projects.
  • Familiarity with techniques to promote watershed health and resilience.
  • Experience negotiating complex agreements and managing project budgets and timelines.
  • Strong communication skills with experience in public and media engagement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and web browsers.

  • Multi-lingual skills and cross-cultural experience.
  • Experience in capacity building and facilitation for collaborative conservation outcomes.
  • Ability to explain conservation practices to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of climate resilience and mitigation practices in forested ecosystems.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and other relevant languages.
