About The Position

The Forestry Aid position is a temporary role within the Forest Service, primarily focused on wildland fire suppression and management. The role involves working as a crewmember on a fire crew, participating in various fire-related duties such as fire prevention, patrol, detection, and prescribed burning. The position is open to the public and encourages applicants who are Job Corps graduates of fire certified programs.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen or US National.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Must be registered with Selective Service if applicable.
• Must pass a background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
• Must meet Federal Wildland Firefighter Medical Standards for arduous duty.
• Must pass the Work Capacity Test for Wildland Firefighters.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in wildland firefighting or related fields.
• Knowledge of fire and fuels terminology.
• Ability to work in remote locations.

Responsibilities

• Develop knowledge of fuels management and fire suppression techniques and practices.
• Perform fireline construction and use of pumps and engines.
• Search out and extinguish burning materials using water or backpack pumps.
• Build firelines using hand tools like axes, shovels, and power saws.
• Patrol firelines to locate and extinguish sparks and flareups.
• Clean, recondition, and store fire tools and equipment.
• Assist in other resource management activities when not engaged in fire suppression.
