About the position

The Forestry Technician (Air Tanker Base) position is established to support firefighting operations by serving as an Airtanker Base Technician. The role involves various responsibilities including the mixing and loading of fire retardants, operating airtanker equipment, and maintaining the airtanker base and associated facilities. The technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the readiness and safety of firefighting operations.

Responsibilities

• Operates complex airtanker equipment systems that require careful synchronization and calibration.
• Performs aviation and ground support activities, including servicing and operating batch mixers, tanks, and related components.
• Mixes, stores, inspects, tests, and delivers fire retardants to meet various specifications.
• Assists in airtanker 'Hot Loading' operations.
• Computes, compiles, and summarizes data for preparation of Forestry Service reports and records.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen or US National.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.
• Must possess a valid state driver's license; a commercial driver's license (CDL) may be required.
• Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
• Must be willing to live/work in remote locations and may require occasional overnight travel.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with fire retardant mixing and loading operations.
