About the position
The Forestry Technician (Dispatch) position serves as an Aircraft Logistics Coordinator for the Great Basin Coordination Center, primarily responsible for analyzing resource requests, monitoring fire situations, advising on aircraft capabilities, and maintaining detailed records for resource mobilization. This role requires effective communication and coordination with various offices and agencies to ensure efficient and cost-effective resource management during fire incidents.
Responsibilities
- Analyze requests and determine the best source of resources for efficient and cost-effective mobilization.
- Monitor daily fire situations in the Great Basin geographic area and anticipate needs, identifying shortages of critical resources.
- Advise offices on the applicability of aircraft types and capabilities, costs, and possible alternatives.
- Create, utilize, and maintain various computer programs/files to facilitate the rapid flow of data and information to appropriate users.
- Maintain detailed records of suppression resource use for long-term planning.
- Update mobilization guides, statistical and year-end reports, and qualification system support.
- Serve on agency and interagency committees and attend meetings.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level for GS-08 applicants, or GS-08 level for GS-09 applicants, in logistics or fire dispatching roles.
- Skills and knowledge of mobilization of personnel, aircraft, equipment, and supplies for wildland fire or emergency incidents.
- Experience reading, understanding, and following directions in mobilization guides.
Nice-to-haves
- Two full years (36 semester hours) of graduate-level college education in a related field such as forestry or range management.
