About The Position

The Forestry Technician position serves as a Fire Dispatcher within a dispatch center, responsible for managing resource requests for fire and emergency incidents. This role involves technical duties related to the dispatch of personnel, equipment, and supplies, ensuring effective communication and coordination during fire operations.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Meet Federal Wildland Firefighter Medical Standards for arduous duty.
  • Willing to live/work in remote locations.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required for fire assignments.
  • Must pass the Work Capacity Test for Wildland Firefighters.
  • Prior wildland firefighting experience is required.

  • Familiarity with telecommunications systems.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, fill, and track resource requests for fire and emergency incidents.
  • Follow established procedures to perform technical duties related to dispatching personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Initiate requests for additional resources as needed.
  • Maintain resource status and tracking systems, and operate telecommunications systems.
  • Collect, process, and submit incident information to support fire operations.
  • Organize and review records of orders placed and actions taken to ensure adherence to procedures.
  • Process and interpret weather information to determine burning indices and staffing levels.
  • Input data into fire-related computer applications and assess outputs.
  • Provide logistical support information to supervisors and recommend efficient resource use.
  • Record and maintain communication logs.
  • Coordinate and assist with fire and aviation operational training and simulations.
  • Gather information for the development of dispatch mobilization guides.
