About the position

The Forklift Operator is responsible for operating power industrial trucks to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count merchandise. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle while also performing Order Filler and Checker duties as needed. The operator must accurately store, ship, and receive products to meet the company's standards of safety, security, and productivity. As part of the DSV team, associates are expected to meet performance, safety, and quality objectives, complying with all corporate and site-specific policies. In the receiving and put-away process, the operator will unload inbound shipments safely and move products to storage locations, ensuring data is accurately input into the Warehouse Management System (WMS). They will efficiently stack and store products in the appropriate areas while maintaining an organized work environment. During order picking, the operator will pull and prepare shipments, ensuring the correct number and type of products are loaded and shipped, all while adhering to customer service standards. Quality control is another essential duty, where the operator must ensure that inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage, reporting any quality variances. The operator will also be responsible for moving products from staging or storage to production lines or staging docks, ensuring proper documentation accompanies the freight. Inventory management is critical, requiring the operator to keep records and reports to maintain tight inventory control and assist in physical inventories. Safety, housekeeping, and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and safety rules are paramount, as is the operation of equipment such as forklifts and other power equipment. The operator must maintain the facility's equipment and materials in a clean and orderly fashion, performing daily inspections and minor maintenance on the forklift or other equipment. Additional duties may include changing fuel tanks on forklifts, participating in physical inventories, and performing various maintenance tasks as assigned. The Forklift Operator must be prepared to work overtime as dictated by business needs, whether mandatory or voluntary.

Responsibilities

  • Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations, inputting data accurately into WMS.
  • Efficiently stack and store product in appropriate areas while maintaining an organized work area.
  • Pull and prepare shipments, ensuring the exact number and type of product is loaded and shipped.
  • Perform picking duties efficiently to meet customer service standards.
  • Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage, reporting quality variances.
  • Move product from staging and/or storage to production lines and/or staging docks, ensuring proper documentation accompanies freight.
  • Keep appropriate records and reports to maintain tight inventory control and assist in physical inventories.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area, complying with all safety rules and procedures.
  • Inspect and perform minor maintenance on the forklift or other equipment daily.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 6 months experience in a logistics/distribution/relevant environment.
  • Ability to operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
  • Must be able to work in unregulated temperatures within the warehouse during varying seasons.
  • Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program is required.
  • Basic computer skills, including RF Scanners and WMS functions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accomplish tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision or guidance.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1-2 years' experience in a warehouse/logistics/distribution environment.
  • 1-2 years forklift experience.
  • Current or prior MHE certification.
