About the position

Come work for the largest equipment dealer in North America! We are seeking a Forklift Field Service Technician for our Battle Creek, MI branch. This position is first shift, Monday through Friday, and is hourly (no flat rate!). As a Field Technician, you will be provided with a company service van that you can take home each day, along with a fuel card and a company-paid cell phone. In this role, you will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance on customer forklifts and other material handling equipment, diagnosing and repairing all forms of customer equipment, and completing each repair job in a timely, efficient, and professional manner. Exceptional customer service is a key component of this position, and you will be expected to work and manage workloads independently while properly completing and submitting all required paperwork. You will also be responsible for the company vehicle and on-board parts inventory, and you will incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into your daily activities. Consistent, regular, and reliable attendance is essential, including being ready for work at the designated start time. We encourage our technicians to participate in our in-house paid training program, allowing them to acquire additional skills in diagnosis and troubleshooting and further advance their career as a technician. Responsibilities

  • Performing preventative maintenance on customer forklifts and other material handling equipment
  • Diagnosing and repairing all forms of customer equipment
  • Completing each repair job in a timely, efficient and professional manner
  • Providing exceptional customer service
  • Working and managing workloads independently
  • Proper completion and submission of all required paperwork
  • Responsible for company vehicle and on-board parts inventory
  • Incorporating Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities
  • Performing other duties as assigned
  • Maintaining consistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start time

Requirements

  • Two years of previous forklift repair experience is highly desired
  • Experience in the Military, Guard or Reserve with an MOS or NEC code of 63B, 63H, 63S, 63W, 63Y, 91B, 91H, 91L, 91M or CM
  • Previous field experience is highly preferable
  • Strong working knowledge of electric and liquid propane units
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Possess own tools
  • Must have clean driving record and valid driver's license to drive company vehicle
  • Familiarity with computer programs such as HYPASS, Hyster TKC training software and Yale/Hyster contact management system
  • Intermediate language skills to read and interpret documents, write routine reports, and speak effectively before groups
  • Basic mathematical skills to perform operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
  • Intermediate reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with additional types of material handling equipment
  • Certification in forklift repair or related fields
